Osteoporosis Program

Physical activity is an often forgotten and insufficiently used medicine, especially when it comes to prevention and fight against osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by a decrease in bone mass and a disorder of its structure. Demineralization of bones makes them to slowly lose strength and elasticity, which increases the risk of fracture. Spinal vertebrae and hips are the most common areas in which it occurs and primarily in women after entering menopause, because production hormones with a protective role is weakened.

In order to prevent this disease, it is necessary to have sufficient amounts of calcium and vitamin D, avoid smoking and alcohol, maintain normal body weight, and regularly engage in physical activity.

Physical activity is an often forgotten and insufficiently used medicine, especially when it comes to prevention of osteoporosis.

Also, these measures should be applied even if the disease occurs, because when combined with drugs, it can slow down bone loss and alleviate the symptoms.

It is important to keep in mind that it is never too late to start the fight against osteoporosis.

One study involving women aged 50-70 years showed that bone mass increased by one percent in those who had regular physical activity, while in others, inactive ones, there was a loss of 2.5 percent. In addition, the active group also gained a higher muscle mass, and exhibited a greater degree of self-confidence.
